Sorry guys, there is no mistake in this headline. It´s written in Gaelic which is the original Irish language and represents one of various impressions I got from my awesome school trip to Ireland.
On Sunday, 30th September, our trip started by meeting at school at about 5. It took us two and a half hours to drive to Munich Airport where we spent three hours passing security controls-very exhausting. After boarding we took off from Germany by a big airplane. Flying is such an amazing feeling. Have you every travelled by plane? If you have, you can surely comprehend what I am talking about. Finally arriving in Ireland, our host families took us home. Well rested and excited all the students started into the week by attending Irish language school every morning. Our teachers´ accurate and well-organised planning for the trip gave us the chance to visit most famous sights and places of Ireland. In the first afternoon a tour guide showed us popular parts of Dublin and in the evening we got to know the two most traditional Irish sports: Gaelic football and Hurling-this new experience was much fun! On Tuesday Trinity College was next on the list. Did you know that it displays the most famous and oldest book in the world, “The Book of Kells”? Wednesday was reserved for “Butlers Chocolate Factory”, I swear, I have never tasted such delicious chocolate flavours. On Thursday we had to split into groups for a selfie-challenge straight through Dublin, the first group to finish taking selfies in front of the given places, was said to win a prize. After that we were allowed to watch a real Irish Greyhound Race. Friday´s programme was exciting again as we crossed the border to Belfast and spent our day there including visiting “The Titanic Museum”. On Saturday our amazing journey ended by strolling along the Cliffs of Howth and flying back to Austria.
In my opinion visiting other countries organised by the school can bring many benefits, it allows you to enjoy a wonderful week with your friends, classmates and teachers. Firstly, I am convinced that everyone can improve their language skills due to always being surrounded by foreigners. Furthermore, staying one week without the parents obligates teenagers to take responsibility for their actions, organise their own daily routine and money.
My most memorable moment in Ireland is difficult to define because I experienced many exciting adventures but if I had to decide I would choose the moment when we were walking along the Cliffs of Howth. The troubled sea was accompanied by stormy winds and the cloudy sky. This breath-taking view was just beyond words.
Ireland is a very beautiful country and doubtless worth visiting, so if you have never been there, I´d advise you to book a flight in order to explore the special Irish culture, traditions and sights, know.
PS: “Dia duit, Èire!” means “Hello, Ireland”, if you haven´t already googled it .
