Hey there,
Have you ever been to Sweden? Well, after our school trip (an Erasmus+ co-funded project week) to the South coast of Sweden, I’d definitely recommend visiting this beautiful and stunning country to everyone. Here’s our itinerary….
On Monday morning at precisely 1 o´clock we started our adventure to set off towards Vienna airport. After twelve hours of travelling, which included taking the bus, plane and train, we finally arrived at our destination, Trelleborg. Alice, a teacher of our partner school Soderslättgymnasiet Trelleborg, welcomed us with open arms. Despite being so tired, we headed to Smyggehuk for Sweden’s best ice cream and the breathtaking coastline. Back in Trelleborg’s Palm Tree Hotel we were happy to sleep early.
Next day, well-rested and fully motivated, we took a 10-minutes´ walk to our partner school where we were curious to meet our Swedish peers, after some small talk in the impressive aula we got to attend a Religion and an English class. In the afternoon we visited Trelleborgen, the Viking Museum, learning about Sweden’s fascinating history. Alice and her students accompanied us on a sightseeing tour through Trelleborg, showing us the highlights of their hometown along with the best places to grab food or go shopping.
Jordberga Slot, a very old and impressive Swedish castle awaited us on Wednesday, we attended a poetry workshop there. A Swedish author instructed us to write our own poems about the encouragement for a better future and surprisingly it was actually enjoyable. Later that day we took a walk to the beach and were amazed by the absolute beauty and the panoramic view. After taking approximately 100 pictures, sitting in the sand and walking on the pier, we played volleyball with the Swedish students and had a delicious barbecue.
Next morning we got the chance to introduce our Swedish colleagues to Austrian culture by showing them some presentations about typically Austrian topics. Additionally, Alice informed us about the Swedish school system and even showed us some tests of hers. Then we took the train to Malmö, a huge city which offered us a vibrant city life, beautiful coastline (we were able to see the Oresund Bridge to Copenhagen, which we had crossed on our first day!) and some really tasty pastry.
Our last full day started in school once again, we finished our presentations. Afterwards, we headed for Lund, an old university town. A visit to the enormous cathedral and a little sightseeing around the university premises were a must, but unfortunately, we didn’t have that much time. To end the day on a high note, Alice had invited us over to her house where we chilled and had some barbecue in the sunshine. It was a perfect last evening where new friendships were made, and emotional moments shared. We were all so thankful for Alice’s effort and had the best time ever.
All in all, our Sweden trip was a total success, the memories made are unforgettable and will always have a special place in our hearts.
